Where does your allegiance lie?

Who or what have you pledged your allegiance to? Allegiance is our loyalty to someone or something. In our nation we were taught early the pledge of allegiance and we recited it facing our flag. And it went something like this:

Pledge of Allegiance

After gaining a bit of wisdom and understanding through schooling we eventually found out how untrue this statement was but, never the less, it was our daily decree. While pledging allegiance to the flag we are actually pledging loyalty to our nation and it’s principles but, some never grasp this concept because we are taught it at such an early age that it just gets embedded into our day. Becoming a simple ritual or task we perform to start our school day.

Well loyalty to your country is one thing but what else are you loyal to? What else has your allegiance? Is it a political party? A humanitarian group? A social club? There are so many different areas of our lives that have different allegiances but do all of those allegiances have a center focus? Is there something that connects them at their core?

Above all my allegiance lies with God and all other pieces of my life fall into place from there. So if any piece was out of order that I could get back to the center of what really mattered. Our allegiance is basically who or what we trust in and where our values lie. Joshua, Moses’ predecessor was familiar with allegiance he proposed the very question to the children of Israel after they had overcome so many battles in the Lord.

Joshua 24:13-15 “I have given you a land for which you did not labor, and cities which you did not build, and you dwell in them; you eat of the vineyards and olive groves which you did not plant. Now therefore, fear the Lord, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord! And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Opened Bible

When we align with other things it’s similar to serving other gods because those things take precedence over God the one who fashioned the world and everything in it. He also gave everything its intended purpose. This is one of the major reasons why my allegiance to God is before any other thing in my life.

Serving the Lord involves honoring Him in all aspects of life to where our lives are aligned with godly principles. It’s easy for our loyalty to God to ebb and flow in our lives but above all things does it last longer than any other alignment or commitment. It’s even more difficult when there are so many options in life. I shared this in the hopes that you would consider what you value in life and if that thing that you valued would withstand the test of time.

If you are interested in serving the Lord and in becoming a believer in Christ it’s not too late. All you have to do is say this out loud, ” Lord I believe that your Son, Jesus died to save me from my sins. I receive your Son as my personal Savior.” You are now a part of the family of God and endowed with certain benefits in life that help you to learn to withstand some things and also live wisely. I encourage you to join local church some that you can learn more about this life you have joined, may God send you somewhere where lives are changed, hearts renewed and restored, and true deliverance is taking place.
