If you were invited to a wedding and you had time to get ready would you be completely ready? What if you weren’t an original guest of the wedding and you were invited by an attendee at the last minute? Jesus tells a story in the Holy Bible comparing the Kingdom of Heaven to a wedding that a King threw for his Son.
Matthew 22:1-14 Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son. He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come. “Then he sent some more servants and said, ‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner: My oxen and fattened cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.’ “But they paid no attention and went off—one to his field, another to his business. The rest seized his servants, mistreated them and killed them. The king was enraged. He sent his army and destroyed those murderers and burned their city. “Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come. So go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.’ So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, the bad as well as the good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests. “But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. He asked, ‘How did you get in here without wedding clothes, friend?’ The man was speechless. “Then the king told the attendants, ‘Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ “For many are invited, but few are chosen.”
This is a depiction of what’s happening right now as I am writing this blog. The invitations are being handed out to potential wedding guests and guess what if you are reading this you are invited as a guest at this wedding. The wedding is for Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, and His bride, the church, which are those who have prepared themselves and gotten dressed for the wedding. You still have time to get ready and the groom Himself will help you to put on your wedding garment. The garment is simply good deeds done through righteousness and in truth. He clothes us with it as we follow Him.
A lot of people misunderstand the concept of Christianity and believe it to be a religion and in society many actually refer to it as just that, a religion. However, Christianity is not a religion. It’s a relationship between us and God. Think of it like this God is your Father and you are His son or daughter and He treats you just like this, as His own child. That’s why the Bible is written the way it’s written to show the relationship between God and man.
Some people think of God as an object or an unknown figure when He is neither. He’s a Spirit that gives life to our spirits but He’s simply waiting on us to connect our human spirit to His Son Jesus Christ who gives us His Holy Spirit. He is what helps us to get dressed for the wedding along with those entrusted in teaching us how to access Him, these are preachers and teachers of the gospel.
Gaining access is easy and it’s the acceptance of the invitation and that’s by accepting Christ as your personal Savior almost like accepting a proposal. Just repeat these words, ” Father I believe that your Son Jesus died to save me from my sins. I receive Him as my personal Savior.” Saying these words is easy believing them is what’s the hardest part but I want to assure you that you’re not saying them to a fictional being who doesn’t care or doesn’t exist. I encourage you to try it. Don’t be like the wedding guest that accepted the invitation and didn’t get dressed. You actually have time to get ready. You can join a local church to get started.
Revelations 19:6-9 Then I heard again what sounded like the shout of a vast crowd or the roar of mighty ocean waves or the crash of loud thunder: “Praise the Lord! For the Lord our God, Almighty, reigns. Let us be glad and rejoice, and let us give honor to him. For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb, and his bride has prepared herself. She has been given the finest of pure white linen to wear.” For the fine linen represents the good deeds of God’s holy people.
